Dr. Anup Kalra, Represents CLFMA OF INDIA at Maize & Millet Summit 2025:

Dr. Anup Kalra, Member of CLFMA OF INDIA and the Maize and Millet Promotion Society, participated as a Guest Panelist at the Maize & Millet Summit 2025, held on March 27-28, 2025, at The Leela Ambience, Gurugram.

The Summit emphasized the crucial role of maize and millet in addressing global food security. The maize industry continues to experience strong growth due to its versatile applications in food, animal feed, and biofuel. Meanwhile, millets are gaining popularity as a nutrient-rich, gluten-free alternative.

The Panel deliberated on the Poultry Market Dynamics and the Future Prospects of Maize:

Dr. Anup Kalra actively contributed to the panel discussion, which explored key challenges and opportunities in the maize industry.

Some of the key takeaways included:

  1. There is increasing competition between the food industry and the biofuel sector for maize, impacting availability and pricing.
  2. To meet rising demand, improving maize productivity through research, technology, and industry collaboration is vital.
  3. Importing genetically modified (GM) maize could be a short-term solution, but it may impact Minimum Support Price (MSP) and farmers' profitability. Government policy on this remains a major question.
  4. Farmers have started using Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) from maize, but challenges related to quality consistency, toxin levels, and standardization need to be addressed.
  5. As maize demand rises, feed costs and biofuel production expenses may increase. This calls for a strategic review.
  6. The industry must focus on high-yielding maize varieties with higher starch content to improve efficiency and output.
  7. The impact of climate change on maize cultivation was also discussed, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices, etc.

The Maize & Millet Summit 2025 provided an essential platform for stakeholders to discuss these critical issues and explore future strategies for sustainable growth in the sector.

CLFMA OF INDIA remains committed to driving innovation and progress across the livestock value chain. Your unwavering support empowers us to build a resilient and sustainable future for the livestock sector.
