Dear CLFMA members and industry colleagues,
July was a month full of buzz in CLFMA with several meetings and activities related to our flagship annual symposium. Let me share some of the highlights from the last month.
Stakeholder Outreach

Media interactions

In July, we have had interactions with several National and regional media and journalists particularly from Maharashtra such as Loksatta, Mahanagar Marathi and Sakal on issues relevant to our industry such as GST on oilseeds and oilmeals, growth prospects for the livestock sector in India. Also, we have highlighted CLFMA’s efforts for the development of the animal protein industry and contribute towards doubling farmers income. These meetings provided us an opportunity to understand the media’s interests and also create visibility on the issues that are impacting our sector.

Representations by CLFMA

Meeting on cages for poultry

CLFMA was invited for a stakeholder interaction under the leadership of Secretary (ADF) to discuss about the standards for cages used in poultry farming. There were several participants from other associations such as IPEMA, AIPBA along with BIS officials; representatives from a few key states such as Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu; a few major companies; and farmers from Orissa and Haryana. The discussions were focusing on how to bring out a solution that is not only science-based but practically feasible to implement on the ground also. CLFMA presented the views of the industry that any standard or legislation should be science-based and must be free from influences from any force with ostensible interests.

Events Update

New Vision for Agriculture & Food Processing

CLFMA participated in a round-table discussion organized by FICCI and shared our perspective on what are the critical short, medium and long-term requirements in terms of policies and regulations. We focused on the demands such as providing income tax concessions including higher depreciation for investments made on infrastructure, cold storage etc; utilization of the recently announced initiatives such as Infrastructure Development Funds for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries sectors; reforming agricultural marketing systems in the country and securing long-term solutions for improving competitiveness of the sector.

60th CLFMA National Symposium

We are forging ahead with preparations for our annual symposium titled “GenNXT Wave: People Technologies & Innovations for Indian Livestock Sector”. So far, we have several confirmed speakers not only from our sector but from other industries also who are experts in their respective fields to share their experiences and valuable insights for the benefit of the participants. The program details will be shared shortly.

As always, I would like to solicit your valuable inputs and suggestions to make this event a grand success with your active participation.
