Greetings from CLFMA OF INDIA!

The new financial year commenced with second wave of Covid19 and rising feed raw material prices in India and other parts of the world. Its again a challenging time for the livestock industry and I am sure that we’ll emerge stronger together beating these adverse circumstances and create new milestones of success.

Let me share with you the highlights of CLFMA’s various activities as follows:

On 12th March, 2021 USDA – CLFMA Webex Meeting:

The participants of the meeting were Senior Attaché Dr. Mariano J. Beillard, Attaché Mark Rosmann, Agricultural Specialists, Mr. Amit Aradhey. and from CLFMA myself, Mr. Sumit Sureka, Dy. Chairman, Mr. Divya Kumar Gulati, Dy. Chairman, Mr. Suresh Deora, Hon. Secretary & Executive Director, Ms. Chandrika Venkatesh participated. I made presentation on CLFMA’s important role in Livestock Sector and how CLFMA is engaged with Government, Research Institutes, Farmers and various other institutions of importance. I also updated them about the challenges in India and how the Livestock sector will grow in future and what would be the scope for the growth of this sector in India and internationally as well.

On 24th March, 2021, CLFMA made representation on sudden spurt in Soy Meal Prices in India to Shri. Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare with a copy to Shri. Piyush Goyal, Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri. Atul Chaturvedi, Secretary (AHD) & Shri. Sanjay Agarwal, Secretary, Agriculture, Co- operation & Farmers Welfare, wherein, CLFMA made a request to the Government to consider strict measures to check speculation in soybean and to impose temporary suspension of futures trading in soybean to cool down the market. In addition, we requested the Government to consider a temporary ban on exports (till next crop) to make the scarce Soya bean available to domestic industry to tide over the crisis.

CPDO&TI organised ONLINE DISCUSSION FORUM (ODF) on “Poultry Feeding Trends in India” on 27th March, 2021 (Saturday) from 10:30 am to 2 pm. I had the privilege to present the inaugural address and Prof. A S Ranade was Guest of Honour. He along with five other Expert Nutritionists across India viz. Dr. S.V. Rama Rao, Principal Scientist (Nutrition), Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad, Dr. Nataraja B.B, MD, Higain Feeds, Bengaluru, Prof. A Natarajan, Professor and Head, AFAQAL, Nammakkal,Dr. Sudipto Haldar, Director (Research and Development) Agrivet Consultancy P. Ltd., Kolkata, Dr. Shiv Kumar Bharadwaj, Consultant Nutritionist, Haryana, spoke on various dimensions of feeding Poultry. Moderator of the online discussion forum was Dr. Mahesh, Director CPDO&TI. CLFMA actively participated in the forum.

On March 24, 2021 and 3rd April, 2021, CLFMA gave Representations on ‘Request for URGENT Intervention by Govt. of India to Allow DUTY FREE IMPORT of 12 Lakh Metric Tons (MT) Soyabean Meal to safeguard Poultry Sector and other Livestock Farmers and Livestock Industry as a whole’ to The Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Damodardas Modi, with copies to Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Office of the Hon'ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, Room no. 120, Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi – 110 001, Shri.
