Dear CLFMA members,
I am pleased to share that CLFMA continues to move forward in delivering its mandates as the apex association for the livestock industry in India, with all your sustained patronage and support. March was an engaging month for us in CLFMA as we have had several opportunities to present our industry’s interests in various platforms. Let me share some highlights of the month that just passed by.

CLFMA delegation met the new Secretary (ADF) and key policy makers at Krishi Bhawan

A delegation from CLFMA formally called on the Secretary ADF, Shri. Tarun Sridhar, IAS recently and appraised him about several key issues and concerns related to the livestock sector. We were discussing about the need to exempt raw materials such as oilseeds & oilmeals from GST; need for LPAI vaccines against the H9 virus; issues in feed additives imports and duties; and allowing imports of DDGS as an alternative feed raw ingredient. We also had engaging interactions with Shri. Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary (Trade) & Dr. O. P. Chaudhary, Joint Secretary (ANLM) and discussed in detail the above issues and possible solutions. We will continue to work with the DADF closely and ensure our industry’s concerns are voiced at the appropriate levels.

DDGS as alternative feed ingredient

We recently met the top executives of US Grains Council at New Delhi and brainstormed about breaking the deadlock in allowing imports of DDGS into India. We reviewed the information submitted to GEAC as well as new data that strengthens our viewpoint that DDGS could potentially be a useful feed ingredient.

We emphasized the above point during our meetings with the top policy makers also and we would be further engaging with the other relevant stakeholders such as various other Ministries in due course.

Events Update
We partnered with PDFA (Progressive Dairy Farmers’ Association) to organize a mega seminar at Ludhiana, in which around 800 progressive farmers from Punjab and Haryana along with major feed millers and representatives from diverse sectors including veterinary products and services participated. “Focus on quality, value addition, marketing and innovation is the critical need of the hour for ensuring a thriving dairy sector in India” was the key message reiterated by several experts who spoke at the dairy seminar. Our Deputy Chairman, Mr. SV Bhave led the CLFMA delegation and spoke at the event emphasizing the need to improve the incomes and profitability of dairy farmers.

FICCI - 5th Maize India Summit’ 18

I participated in the 5th edition of India Maize Summit 2018 organized by FICCI at New Delhi and shared the industry’s views that ensuring good quality feed raw materials at affordable prices is absolutely critical since poultry and livestock sectors together consume nearly 70 percent of maize produced in India.
More than 280 delegates from seed companies, processors, commodity traders, government, and civil society participated in the summit and shared their views.
Technical sessions and panel discussions involving international experts, FPOs and representatives of the government alongside the maize industry, deliberated on building strategies on three fronts: a) Meeting future demand of maize (b) increased farmers’ income and c) putting an imprint of Indian maize on global map in terms of quality competitiveness.
